I love candles, but this is the cutest little thing ever! I first saw one at my Mom's house over Christmas break.
Whenever I bring avocados home from the store, I swear Shawn will just stare at them on the counter waiting for them to magically turn into......
GUACAMOLE!
For my late anniversary present, I told Shawn he could take me to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point. Tulips are my favorite flower, so it only makes sense!
It looks like I meandered my way into a sea of tulips, right? But really I'm crouching down on a walkway in between patches, and Shawn took this amazing optical illusion :)
I was in tulip heaven! If only my cat back home in AZ, aptly named Kitten, was here with me he would be in tulip heaven too! But for different reasons - it's the ONLY flower he LOVES to EAT!
For the last 8 weeks, this is where my second home has been.
My last internship at the University of Utah in Acute Care.
4 days a week. 7AM - 5PM. Orem to Salt Lake City.
For the first half, I was taking the bus every day, because "someone" told me it was a great idea. That bus took 1.5 hours in the morning and 2.5 hours in the evening. I sat next to strangers who thought I wanted to talk with them. I got no sleep on the bus. I did no studying on the bus (car sick). And best of all, by the time I got home, IF I went to bed right away, I MIGHT get 8 hours of sleep.
For the last half, I was SO HAPPY to drive instead. The downside was: from our place to the hospital was almost exactly a 90 mile round trip. I literally watched the needle go down by a quarter tank every day. But that was 90 miles of blasting my music, NOT talking to strangers, and being in control of what time I got there and what time I left.
Was it all worth it? Absolutely. Having this internship at the University of Utah Hospital was the best thing for my future career, whether I work there or not. I gained valuable experience, confidence, and a sense of what it takes to heal someone. There are things you learn in a hospital you just can't teach in the classroom. I worked with some outstanding coworkers, met some amazing patients, and somehow escaped without getting thrown up on, pooped on, or peed on. Ok, I did get peed on, but not directly.
All in all, I'm thankful for the opportunity, but man am I glad that's over!
Ok, Monsters are not a late obsession for me, they're a "5-years-and-counting" obsession. But they helped me get through my first 7-week internship...and I'm inviting them to my next 8-week internship. I know they're bad for me, but my justification is I don't drink soda all the time. Unless that soda comes from a certain Costco, which comes with a certain Polish Sausage, for a whopping $1.50! Then yes, I drink soda.
Shawn and I go through shows like...movies. We watch back-to-back episodes until it's over. So right now, it is "The Big Bang Theory". At first I hated it, because all they talk about is nerdy, chemistry-physics-biology mumbo-jumbo. But then I realized...that's what I'm married to! So I gave it another try and it's actually really funny, but we both agree that Leonard (the guy in the picture on the right) is so annoying you just want to punch him in the face!
And finally, my all time life obsession: Sleeping In. Knowing I don't have early morning obligations is probably the most liberating feeling to me. I COULD get up early enough to run some errands, clean up the house, do some laundry (HA!) or I COULD stay in bed and make all of that wait a few more hours. I'm holding on to my "Sleeping In" for as long as I can...until we have kids someday and I start calling 8AM sleeping in! Gross.
